About me

Nick Down is a certified Grand Master Stringer for Squash. He also is certified at pro tour level for Tennis. He has worked for a few organisations in the past, but now works for himself and the Global Racket Stringers Association International (GRSA-International),

Nick first strung a racket about 35 years ago, having bought a simple, drop-weight machine. He was playing a lot of squash, for about 4 teams a week and almost immediately, began to string the rackets of all the members of the teams. He had a strong junior career as a squash player, winning his County Championships three times and in 1979 was in the Welsh U19 Squad.

In more recent times, Nick has been a tutor with the ukrsa, and is still a member. He was the squash manager for ersa for 7 years and wrote all of their squash exams and became the first and only master pro tour stringer for squash, He is now the Global Squash Manager for GRSA-International.

PSA World Tour

Nick has spent 15 years on the PSA World Tour, and amongst many others has strung the rackets of 20 world no.1 squash players. He has also strung for 3 Wimbledon Tennis Champions and county squad Badminton players. Between 2013 and 2020 he was the Head Stringer at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, the largest rackets sports club in the UK, (mainly Tennis). However, the Club was often closed during the Covid pandemic and Nick stood down when the club re-opened again.

Nick is also a qualified teacher. He is also a Ski Instructor and both a Squash and Squash 57 (Racquetball) coach.
